The Larry's Chair

Bearing the namesake of the late restauranteur and incidental mastermind behind this fixture, Lorenzo "Larry" J. Cruz, Larry's chair is a suspended sling-style lounge chair.

It is constructed with hair-line finished stainless steel outfitted with brass hardware and end caps. And rested on the base and backrest is a natural and fully aniline-tanned hide.

Following Larry's passing in 2008, Marle Cruz, his wife, approached us with two of his chairs -- each considered a family heirloom -- and requested that they be refurbished. Upon rehabilitating said chairs, we drew inspiration from their apparent Sicilian posture -- i.e., its diagonally sloped backrest and adjacent free-floating base.

And herein lies the peculiar origin of this rather unorthodox chair. A chair which was inadvertently inspired by a man with no prior experience in interior design, and one who so happened to also have found a sprawling Restaurant Group (LJC) with no prior experience in the culinary arts.
